Heute unternehmen wir einen Ausflug in den Anza Borrego State Park. Auf dem Weg dorthin fahren wir durch riesigen Orangenplantagen. Aber auch Avocados, Meyers Lemonen, Blutorangengetrockneter Pfefer .. werden hier angebaut und an der Straße verkauft. Da halten wir doch gleich an.
Die Weiterfahrt gestaltet sich schon bald schwierig. Die Außentemperatur sinkt bis auf 2°, Schnee bedeckt die Landschaft. Und 30 km vor dem Ziel geht es nur weiter, wenn Schneeketten vorhanden sind. „Chains required. No exceptions“. Die Straße ist aber noch befahrbar. Ich frage den Fahrer vom Schneeflug, der hinter uns fährt, ob eine Weiterfahrt auch ohne Schneeketten möglich ist. Er bejaht dieses und sagt, dass der Straßenzustand sich nicht weiter verschlechtert.
Wir fahren weiter zum Ziel. Was hätten wir alles verpasst. Wundervolle Sichten auf das riesige Tal, Stahlskulpturen im State Desert.
In Borrego Springs stärken wir uns bei Carmelita mit 2 Tacos mit Carne Asada und Ranchero-Bohnen. Sehr lecker.
Zum Abschluss gehen wir noch den 9 km langen Palm Canyon Trail, in der Sonne, im leichten Regen, über Schottersteine, …
Die Palmenoase können wir nicht erreichen, der Weg ist gesperrt. Trotzdem war es bis hierhin eine schöne Wanderung.

The Anza Borrego Sculptures are like something straight out of a movie. While driving through Borrego Springs there are 130 full size sculptures out in the middle of no where. Great chance for night photography!
First, you enter the park and drive through the little city of Borrego Springs. There will be a roundabout you can’t miss, so you know you’re on the right path. There is nowhere to park to get to the sculptures specifically, so just keep that in mind and the map I made should help. Some of the sculptures you will need to do a little off roading to get up close and personal to (I was in a 4 door sedan and made it just fine). They are very spaced out so driving is a better choice to see them rather than walking, especially if the weather is hot at all.
An artist named Ricardo Breceda placed all of these sculptures out in the desert for all to enjoy.The artworks range from prehistoric mammals to historical characters, dinosaurs, 350-foot-long serpent, etc.
Tip: don’t do this during the summer the temperature is WAY to hot to enjoy anything in Anza Borrego.
